Her name is April Lockett, but many know her as AP. You may even know her as the Absolute Princess and the voice of Detroit, either way, it’s likely you are familiar with her work. Ms. Lockett has taken the media industry by storm. First, you heard her on the radio. Her idiosyncratic voice, relatable personality, and often opinionated commentary made thousands rally behind her and anticipate her daily radio show. Now, she’s taking her talents on-air and giving you more of the woman you love most. She’s a highly dedicated professional with a laundry list of experience. From radio, to hosting, to television and more, Ms. Lockett is quite the media personality and definitely a mogul on the rise! We are thrilled to have this media maven as our Rising Trendsetters: Mogul Edition!

1) Please introduce yourself?

My name is April Lockett but my friends call me “AP.” I’m a born and raised Detroit Girl with a huge love for God and talking lol.

2) Tell us what you’ve been doing since leaving radio?

Since leaving the station I scrambled around for a while trying to figure out what I was going to do and God blessed me with #AskAP which is a Vlog turning into a TV show highlighting people’s everyday questions about Life, Love, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

3) What are some of your accomplishments and/or most memorable moments.

My greatest accomplishment thus far was building a relationship with God and Him allowing me to understand that nothing happens without Him, My most memorable moments would have to be connecting with my followers so many people reach out to me everyday and I’m always so humbled and so honored that so many people values my opinions and really listen to what I have to say on so many topics.

Believe in yourself don’t think that it’s going to happen overnight.

 4) What advice would you give to aspiring media personalities? What are some things you do to perfect your craft that you can share?

What I would tell aspiring media personalities is to believe in yourself don’t think that it’s going to happen overnight. The biggest mistake I made in my career was having a sense of “entitlement,” I felt after so long somebody owed me something and the reality is nobody owes you anything! After so many disappointments I had to learn that. I’m sharing this because no matter who you think you are there is always someone else running the same race.

 5) What new projects do you have coming up or what are you currently working on?
Well right now I’m wrapped up in #AskAp. I’m coming up with new content and a new fresh look to make it different form anything else you’ve see on television.

thank you to everyone that’s every reached out to me via social media or in person, and for the encouraging words and prayers. It’s been crazy but God is still in the midst  and I appreciate you all for your support!
